21 Random Facts About Kato Shigeaki NEWS

Yep, this is the third post about NEWS’s random facts and this post belongs to Kato Shigeaki a.k.a Kato a.k.a Shige-chan. Shige is the very first member that made me know about NEWS. I was watching his dorama and surprised when I found that he is an idol. At first, I think he was actor because he doesn’t really have idol’s aura on him. Thanks to him I start listening to NEWS and become their fan.

So, without further a do, here’s some random facts about Kato Shigeaki. Btw this is the longest random facts that I’ve ever posted, I hope you enjoy it!

 

1. His Junior Days in Johnny and Associates

Shige entered JA on 1999 and he was encouraged by his parents. He danced a lot for Kinki Kids and Arashi. Shige considered himself as an elite because he used to get a lot of work compared to others Johnny’s Juniors. He even asked Kitagawa Johnny himself to take a break from junior activity to pursue his education. That time Shige enrolled to Aoyama Private High School which is pretty elite school in Tokyo.

Shige also confessed that he was asked by school staff to not come to school festival because it would make a fuzz (due to his popularity).LOL.

Right after took some break, Shige came back and got a roll from drama. That’s why Shige thought that he was an elite. LOL.

2. He and Education

Shige is pretty strict with his education. Shige spent his high school life on Aoyama Private High School and got degree on law from Aoyama Gakuin. He also was in Aoyama Middle School. FYI, Aoyama Gakuin is pretty elite campus, so i believe that Shige is smarthead idol. Hehe.

3. He as Novelist

Shige wanted to write novel since long time ago. On 2008 (The Shonen Club) Shige stated that he wanted to be a novelist someday because he would be the first Johnny’s who do that. He started his writing after web series named “Wagai wa Shige De Aru” which make him interested. He then got a chance to write articles/essay to some magazine that challenged him to express his feeling through writing. But writing essay make him  to be careful because it has to be true and can’t be frontal. Shige thought that he should write fiction.

But the real reason he wrote that time was because he wanted to save NEWS (that was on crisis). While NEWS didn’t have any group activity and all the member worked with different group (Tegoshi and Massu were busy with Tegomass, Yamashita Tomohisa with his solo, and Nishikido Ryo with Kanjani 8), writing was the only thing that Shige could do.

Shige got a chance to write his first novel (Pink and Gray) and his deadline was mere two months but Shige finished his novel on 6 weeks.

Shige said that it took almost one year until Pink and Gray make it to publish.

Shige then wrote one novel every year and become praised novelist. After Pink and Gray, there are Senkyou Scramble, Burn, and compilated short stories titled “Kasa O Motanai Oretachi Wa”. In 2018, Shige also released two novel which are about his life when he was 23 and 32 years old. Congratulation.

 

4. He and Writing Activity

Shige usually does his writing activity on night/midnight in his apartment. He never brought his writing material on work because other (NEWS) member will tease (or probably annoy) him. LOL.

Shige got inspiration from many places and many people that he met when he works as an idol.

He used to write on his dining table but on 2016 he finally moved out from his old apartment and make his own working place.

When he writes, Shige usually wears neck pillow to prevent his neck gets hurt and towel so that his hair won’t disturb him. LOL.

5. He is (very) Shy Person

It’s infamous that Shige (and other member) declares that he is (very) shy person. His level of shyness was pretty terrible until he can’t ask for delivery service. Shige said that he can’t stand for many campaign that was offered to him when he wants to order something. On the worst scenario, Shige will close the phone or take all the campaign. Once Shige was say yes to all campaign when he ordered pizza, and it end up he received so many things. LOL. Shige also make sure not to meet with delivery man. LOL.

6. He is Also A Loner

Shige is loner and like to be alone. He said that he can do anything by himself like cooking and cleaning. On The Shonen Club Premium (2018/01/18), Shige said that he often went to Aquarium by himself in private. Massu and Tegoshi who heard that was suprised because Aquarium is a palce for couple to date. Shige said that he didn’t have much time and. LOL.

7. And Not (Really) Sporty

Even he has big body, Shige is lack with sporty activities. Hey! Say! Jump Inoo Kei said that Shige was not totally sporty and he was stiff when he danced. After seeing his senpai Shige, Inoo-chan thought that it’s okay to not sporty even if you’re Johnny’s. LOL.

8. And Not Picky Eater

Shige doesn’t have like or dislike when it comes to food. He can (almost) everything!!

• Shige eat crow meat (karasu)

• Shige drink dog, cat, and dolphin milk!!

• Shige eat turtle

• Shige eat alligator and bear meat!!

 

9. He and Cooking

He started cooking for himself was not because he loves cooking but it because he can’t do food delivery service. LOL.

Shige can cook almost everything like fish, pork, vegetable, etc. He even makes pickle plum by himslef because his friend sends him too much plum every year.

10. He and Acting

Shige is probably has the more acting experience than other NEWS member. I think Shige can act very well and he frequently got difficult role for drama or stageplay.

• Shige plays middle schooler who is little bit perverted and narcist – Gekidan Engimono ( Ie ga Toii – 2005)

• Shige as Paul – Green Mile (Stage play) – 2017

• Shige as young detective (Aoyama Toshio) who has strong feeling for justice but paired with girl detective who never thinks about other people – Kirawareru Yuki – 2017

• Shige as Murata Keisuke who actually a ghost that came to save his friend. Shige potrays a gay person in here – Kasa Wo Motanai Oretachi Wa – 2016. The dorama was inspired by his own novel with the same title.

• Shige plays someone who involves in mafia war on Troubleman – 2010. The dorama was pretty much interesting but also difficult to understand at some parts.

 

• Shige as Sensei Yoshinori who is blind teacher – Momoku no Yoshinori Sensei ~Hikari wo Ushinatte Kokoro ga Mieta – 2016

• Shige plays a student who is addicted to sex – Seminar (Stage Play) – 2009

11. He and Camera

Shige loves photography and camera. He bought his first camera on 2007 and it his first analog camera. The very first photo that he took was a town scenery when he visited Paris. Shige is more interested with analog camera than the digital one, he even hada black room where he washed his own photos. He gave his black room to Hey! Say! Jump Nakajima Yuto who also interested in camera.

12. He and Fishing

Shige likes fishing and do fishing on his free time or his day off. He often go out with Ohno Satoshi to go fishing.

13. His Thought about LGBT

Shige is pretty open about his supprot to LGBTQ Communites. He talked about this issues on his TV program (Newsな２人), wrote about this in his novel (傘をもたないオレたちわ), and featured this issue on his solo song (あやめ). Shige believes that people should be free to love someone regardless their sex or gender.

14. His Love Experience

When he was in high school, he experienced a beautiful yet heartbreaking love story. One day, Shige was attracted to a beautiful girl who always in the same train on the same time with him. Shige didn’t know where that girl goes to school or even didn’t know her name. Shige then wrote a letter for her a’nd would be so much happy if the girl replied him. The girl replied and the letter was interesting. Too bad she didn’t write any contact and from that day Shige never met her ever again. Ouch.

15. His Thought about Marriage

Shige wants to marry someone one day. When he acted on special dorama on 24 Hours TV, Shige thought that marriage is beautiful thing. But the thing is Shige is loner, he can do almost everything by himself.  Shige ever stated that he wanted marry someone that has the same pace as him, they will live together but only meet with her on good time. LOL.

Shige stated that he wants to married with someone who understand him and someone who has high intelegency, he thought that marrying only caused by emotion/love would fail. (Hmmm)

Shige wants have kids but he thinks that it shouldn’t be the reason to marry someone. Having relationship with a girl only to have a kid is not really good idea for Shige.

But, Shige also mentioned that he really scared to have a kid because he probably will hurt them or make them unhappy. (Shige, what happened to you?)

 

16. He and Pink And Gray (ピンクとグライ)

Pink and Gray was probably a  turning point for Shige as novelist or even as an idol. Many people think that Pink and Gray potrays Shige as main protagonist but Shige denied that.

When Pink and Gray finally got into the movie, Shige was totally surprised and didn’t know what to do. Shige felt so weird and moved when he saw his own novel became alive. He said that some scene are perfectly like what he thought when wrote it.

Nakajima Yuto who become main protagonist on the movie said that he sees himself when he see the movie.

Fun Fact:

When the movie pink and gray was screening, Shige was having stomachache and had to go to toilet. But he felt not right to leave the theater in the middle of movie screening because the staff will think that Shige is mad or something. Shige then hold his ‘desire’ to go to toilet for almost one hour untill the credit title over. His eyes were teared up a bit that time.

When the screening was over, Shige was supposed to say one or two thing but he excused himself and ran to the toilet as fast as he could instead. When he finally ‘released’ the thing, Yuto followed him to the toilet and asked Shige about the movie. Shige replied with “Don’t ask me now”. LOL.

17. He and Senpai

Even Shige is shy person, he still be friend with his senpai. He is pretty close with Kanjani 8 Murayama because they worked together before and had a special section on magazine where they talked about random things.

He also be friend with Arashi Ohno Satoshi because they both love fishing and they are both  shy person, it seems that Ohno-san often bring Shige to go to fishing together.

 

18. He and Kohai

Shige is known that he rarely go out with his kohai and accoding to Inoo-chan, no one (junior) ever go eat with Shige.

When Inoo-chan was junior (around 2002 – 2003), he and Shige were on the same TV Program named Ya-Ya-Yah, Inoo-chan said that he once went to Shige’s house and had sleepover there. Shige said that Inoo-chan was so cute that time. Inoo-chan added they also took a bath together. LOL.

At first Shige refused to take a bath together because he already on high school (Inoo-chan was middle schooler), so Inoo went alone. But Shige finally followed him to the bathroom naked because he felt so lonely. LOL.

When Pink and Gray adapted to the movie, Shige and Nakajima became close and often send mail to each other. According to Shige, Nakajima Yuto was probably the only kohai that ever go out with him. That time Nakajima said to Shige that he wants to eat sushi. Shige who never does things like senpai supposed to do brought Yuto to sushi restaurant. On that restaurant the chef was serving them one by one so they have to eat in patiently. Yuto then said to Shige that he wanted to eat sushi in big portion, so they probably should go to normal sushi restaurant. After hearing that, Shige felt that he would never brings Yuto to eat again. LOL. (Shige, please grow up!!!).

Bonus!! Shige hugged little Yuto. So Cute!!!

 

19. He and NEWS

Shige got color green on news and  he symbolize alphabet W as writer. When debutted as NEWS, Shige didn’t has many solo part and actually was the last popular member. Massu said that after many years singing together with Shige, Shige’s vocal is getting better right now.

20. He and Koyama Keiichiro

    

Shige and Koyama are pretty close, both at work or at private life. On Shige’s birthday, Koyama called Shige and asked him does he need slow juicer or not. Shige who never said that he wants slow juicer end up saying that he need one. Koyama then bought him slow juicer the next day.

21. His Ideal Girlfriend (Wife)

Shige’s ideal girlfriend (wife) is someone who exactly like him but also someone who totally opposite of him. Shige can do almost housework by himself, so a girl who can do nothing is okay for him. But since he does writing activity after going home for work, he probably needs someone who can take care of him. He also needs someone that understand his pace and his lifestyle. Shige does his writing activity in the middle of the night, so he probably doesn’t want to be disturbed around that time.

He feels a girl’s sexiness when the girl wears accessories that pretty hard to see like earpiece or earphone.

Well, that 21  random things about Kato Shigeaki.
